AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPES- Bush, Coast and Wetlands
I'm an oil painter and mostly paint en plein air, observing and painting the scene on location in natural light. The weather poses challenges, promotes efficient brushstrokes and mark-making and puts an energy into my paintings that I look for when viewing the final result. I like to complete a painting in one sitting. At times minor brushstrokes are added back in the studio, and only to bring the painting to a point where I'm happy to leave it.
Nearby to my studio is the wetland area of Narrabeen Lagoon. Daily walks along the lake trail keep me connected to nature. The wide array of native birds, plant and marine life along with the light and colour of the lake provides a rich source of inspiration for a lot of my paintings. The beaches and headlands right along the Northern Beaches are also the subject of many of my paintings.
